Game previews, recaps and daily roundups
New York overwhelmed Philadelphia 137-98 at Madison Square Garden, turning Game 2 into a statement win behind elite ball movement, 3-point volume and defensive pressure. The Knicks now lead the quarterfinal series 2-0 after validating nearly every pregame indicator that pointed in their direction.
Minnesota closed with a 35-point fourth quarter to beat San Antonio 104-102 at Frost Bank Center and take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference quarter-finals. The result flipped the pregame profile, with the 49-win Timberwolves surviving on the road against a Spurs team that entered with an 83.2 percent market-implied win probability.
Siroki Brijeg left Sportska dvorana Borik with an 82-76 win over Borac Banja Luka, turning a tight Game 2 with a decisive third-quarter surge. The result gives Siroki a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series despite Borac entering as the CPI No. 1 team.
Barcelona controlled Game 2 from the opening quarter and beat Gran Canaria 91-69 on May 3 at Palau Blaugrana. The result pushed Barcelona ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven series and reinforced the gap suggested by form, rest, CPI and market expectations.
Real Madrid’s 131-123 win over Murcia headlined a packed May 3 schedule across basketball, with ACB producing the night’s highest-scoring drama. Baskonia, Barcelona, Detroit and Cleveland also posted decisive wins, while Dallas Wings W delivered one of the standout results in NBA W action.
Los Angeles Sparks W opened the game with a 19-9 first quarter and never fully gave back control in an 85-75 win over Portland W at Moda Center. The result tracked with the pregame indicators: Los Angeles entered with the stronger efficiency profile, cleaner assist production and a major CPI edge.
Dallas turned a pregame underdog spot into a statement win, beating Las Vegas 101-84 at College Park Center. The Wings set the tone with a 35-point first quarter and leaned on their ball movement, shooting profile and rebounding edge to control the Aces.
Real Madrid erased a double-digit first-half scoring rhythm from Murcia and closed with a 33-point fourth quarter to win Game 2 at Movistar Arena. The result pushed Madrid ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven series despite Murcia entering with the ACB’s top CPI profile.
Manresa flipped the pre-game script and beat Valencia 104-102 on May 3, turning a market-underdog spot into a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Valencia entered with the stronger profile, cleaner recent efficiency and a 66.6 percent implied win probability, but Manresa’s fourth-quarter close decided Game 2.
Bilbao protected home court at Bilbao Arena, beating Granada 88-83 in Game 2 to move ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. The result tracked with the pre-game indicators: Bilbao entered with the stronger profile, cleaner health sheet and a major CPI edge, then used a decisive third quarter to separate.
Manchester Basketball beat Bristol Flyers 90-85 at SGS WISE Arena, using a 30-point fourth quarter to seize a commanding 3-0 lead in the SLB quarter-finals. Bristol’s second-quarter surge made it a contest, but Manchester’s cleaner ball security and late-game scoring edge carried the night.
Jahorina beat Sloboda 76-73 at Sportska Dvorana Peki, protecting home court and moving ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven playoff series. The result cut against the pre-game efficiency profile, as Jahorina’s rebounding edge and cleaner ball security outweighed Sloboda’s stronger season indicators.
London enter Game 2 at Copper Box Arena with a 1-0 quarter-final series lead, the SLB’s No. 1 CourtFrame Power Index profile and an 88.1 percent market-implied win probability. Newcastle’s shot-making metrics are dangerous enough to complicate the matchup, but the Eagles must solve a major possession and rebounding deficit to level the series.
Borac Banja Luka enters Game 1 at Sportska dvorana Borik with the league’s top CourtFrame Power Index profile and a perfect 6-0 home split, but Siroki Brijeg brings the higher season scoring average and a faster recent tempo. With both teams rested and healthy, the opener projects as a clean test of efficiency, possession control and which side can impose its preferred rhythm.
Barcelona enters Game 1 at Palau Blaugrana with the stronger profile by record, efficiency and CourtFrame Power Index, but Gran Canaria’s recent offensive indicators create a more nuanced matchup than the standings suggest. The key question is whether Barcelona’s shot quality and rest advantage can suppress a Gran Canaria team that plays slightly faster and leans heavily into perimeter volume.
Cheshire Phoenix enter Game 2 of the SLB quarter-finals up 1-0 in the series and backed by a major efficiency profile advantage. Surrey 89ers have enough shot-making and playmaking to stress the matchup, but the numbers point to Cheshire’s balance, rebounding edge and home scoring environment as the central variables.
Baskonia enter Game 1 at Fernando Buesa Arena with the stronger record, the superior CourtFrame Power Index profile and a major recent net-rating advantage. Breogan’s path is narrower but real: elite shooting efficiency, a higher assist rate and enough three-point volume to make variance part of the tactical conversation.
The May 2 basketball schedule delivered statement road wins in the NBA and a one-point ACB upset as MoraBanc Andorra edged Tenerife 90-89. The Lakers handled Houston 98-78, while Philadelphia beat Boston 109-100 in the night’s other NBA result.
MoraBanc Andorra beat Tenerife 90-89 at Pabellón Insular Santiago Martín, flipping the fourth quarter and taking a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Tenerife entered with the stronger profile, cleaner recent metrics and an 82.4 percent market-implied win probability, but Andorra’s late scoring surge overrode the pre-game indicators.
San Pablo Burgos turned a halftime deficit into a 99-91 win at Coliseum Burgos, using a 52-point second half to take control of Game 2. Forca Lleida led through two quarters but managed only 14 points in the fourth as Burgos moved ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.
Cheshire Phoenix seized control with a 42-point second quarter and rolled past Surrey 89ers 128-96 at Surrey Sports Park. The win moved Cheshire to 2-0 in the SLB Quarter-Finals and reinforced the pre-series gap between the league’s No. 2 CPI side and No. 7 Surrey.
Penarol enters May 3 with the league’s No. 1 CourtFrame Power Index profile, a 19-3 record and a significant efficiency advantage over Hebraica y Macabi. The matchup hinges on whether Hebraica can speed the game into a higher-possession environment without feeding Penarol’s elite shot quality and assist-driven offense.
Nacional enters May 3 with the stronger record, home profile and CourtFrame Power Index standing, but Defensor’s shot-making efficiency gives this matchup more texture than the market probability suggests. The key variable is tempo: Nacional’s recent 63.0 pace meets a slower Defensor side at 58.2, creating a game script that could determine whether the favorite’s depth and home scoring edge fully translate.
Aguada enters Malvin with the stronger record, superior CourtFrame Power Index profile and a clear efficiency advantage over the last 10 analyzed games. But Malvin’s home split and Aguada’s road form create a more nuanced probability picture than the headline numbers suggest.
