The SEC has announced a policy that will prevent its member schools from rostering athletes who have previously played in the NFL, NBA or WNBA.
The decision follows a similar move by the Big Ten, which passed a rule barring players returning from the NFL from competing at its schools. The SEC’s policy goes further by extending the restriction beyond football to include professional basketball experience in both the NBA and WNBA.
The rule applies across SEC member programs and establishes a conference-level restriction on athletes attempting to return to college competition after appearing in those professional leagues.
