The No. 6 seed beat top-seeded East Tennessee State on Monday night to capture the SoCon tournament championship, earning the league’s automatic NCAA tournament bid in the process.
A title run capped by an upset
Furman entered the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed, making Monday’s result a notable upset against the tournament’s top seed. By taking down East Tennessee State in the title game, Furman secured the conference’s postseason trophy and punched its ticket to March Madness.
For East Tennessee State, the loss ended its run as the tournament’s top-seeded team and denied it the automatic berth that comes with the SoCon championship.
