Hofstra is returning to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 25 years after defeating Monmouth 75-69 to win the Coastal Athletic Association tournament championship Tuesday night.

The victory delivered the league’s tournament title and capped Hofstra’s run through the CAA bracket, sending the Pride back to college basketball’s biggest stage for the first time since their last appearance a quarter-century ago.

Monmouth kept the championship game close, but Hofstra did enough down the stretch to secure the six-point win and the automatic berth that comes with the conference tournament crown.

What it means

By claiming the CAA tournament championship, Hofstra punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament, ending a 25-year drought and marking a milestone moment for the program.
