Javohn Garcia delivered a career-best performance Wednesday, scoring 31 points and knocking down five 3-pointers to lead No. 2 seed McNeese to a 76-59 win over top-seeded Stephen F. Austin in the Southland tournament championship game.
With the victory, McNeese claimed the Southland tournament title and earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Garcia sets the tone
Garcia’s scoring outburst provided the offensive engine throughout the night, as McNeese pulled away from Stephen F. Austin and controlled the title game. His five makes from beyond the arc helped the Cowboys build separation and maintain it down the stretch.
Southland title secured
Facing the tournament’s top seed on the championship stage, McNeese delivered a decisive result to finish the run with the league trophy and a spot in the NCAA field.
