The ACC passed a resolution Thursday that bans professional athletes from returning to college competition in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.
The decision brings the ACC in line with the other Power 4 conferences, which have also moved to establish eligibility enforcement standards regarding athletes who have competed professionally.
The resolution applies across the conference’s highest-profile sports and is aimed at maintaining consistent eligibility rules within the Power 4 structure. The ACC’s action adds another formal step in how major conferences are addressing the boundary between professional participation and college eligibility.
