Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell gave a direct response Tuesday night when asked why his trips to the free-throw line have decreased in the playoffs compared with the regular season.
Pressed to pinpoint the reason for the change, Mitchell said, “I don’t flop, maybe that’s why.”
The comment came as Mitchell continues to carry a major offensive role for Cleveland in the postseason. Free throws are often a key part of playoff scoring efficiency, and Mitchell’s reduced frequency at the line has become a point of discussion during the Cavaliers’ run.
Mitchell’s answer reflected frustration with the way contact has been officiated, while stopping short of offering a broader critique. The Cavaliers will continue to rely on his shot creation and scoring as they navigate the tighter, more physical environment of postseason basketball.
