Siena is headed back to the NCAA tournament for the first time in more than a decade.

Coach Gerry McNamara’s Saints claimed the MAAC championship Tuesday night, defeating Merrimack 64-54 in the conference title game to earn the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. The win sends Siena to the national stage for the program’s first NCAA appearance since 2010.

MAAC title secured

Siena’s victory over Merrimack capped the MAAC tournament with a championship performance, delivering the conference crown and the accompanying NCAA bid. The Saints held Merrimack to 54 points in the final, finishing the job in a 10-point win.

For McNamara, the title represents a milestone moment, guiding Siena back into the NCAA field after a long absence. For the program, it’s a return to March Madness that had eluded the Saints since their last tournament berth in 2010.
