Auburn secured the first NIT championship in program history Sunday night, defeating Tulsa 92-86 in overtime after a pivotal late turnover in regulation.
The Tigers took advantage of a five-second violation in the closing moments of regulation to extend the game, then carried that momentum into the extra period. Auburn outscored Tulsa in overtime to close out the six-point victory and clinch the title.
Late break turns the game
With the outcome still in doubt late in regulation, Tulsa’s five-second violation proved costly, giving Auburn an opening to keep the contest alive. The Tigers made the most of the opportunity, forcing overtime and then taking control in the final five minutes.

The victory marks Auburn’s first NIT championship, capping the tournament run with a win in a tightly contested final that ultimately swung on one late possession and a strong overtime finish.
