NBA commissioner Adam Silver reaffirmed the league’s commitment to Memphis, emphasizing that the NBA remains firmly behind the city as the home of the Grizzlies.

At the same time, Silver said he would like to see Memphis play occasional games in Nashville as a way to expand the franchise’s reach and grow its fan base beyond its primary market.

Growing the footprint while keeping Memphis central

Silver’s comments paired a clear message about the NBA’s continued presence in Memphis with an interest in exploring select games elsewhere in the state. The idea, as framed by Silver, is aimed at widening support for the Grizzlies rather than shifting the team’s home base.

The Grizzlies have been based in Memphis since the franchise relocated from Vancouver in 2001, making the city a long-standing NBA market.
