Behind a strong all-around performance led by Cade Cunningham, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Orlando Magic 98-83 on the NBA slate, winning by 15 points. Detroit set the tone with efficient shot-making, finishing 33-for-59 from the field (56.0%) and consistently generating quality looks through ball movement (22 assists). Orlando struggled to match that efficiency, shooting 18-for-48 (38.0%) and leaning heavily on perimeter attempts (8-for-32 from three).
Cunningham paced the Pistons with 27 points, repeatedly creating advantages in the half court and converting at the rim and in the midrange. Tobias Harris provided secondary scoring with 16 points, helping Detroit maintain control when Orlando tried to cut into the margin. The Pistons also won the possession battle, dominating the glass 57-42, which limited Orlando’s second-chance opportunities and helped Detroit control tempo.
For the Magic, Jalen Suggs led the way with 19 points, while Paolo Banchero added 18 and Franz Wagner scored 12. However, Orlando’s offense never found sustained rhythm due to the team’s overall shooting struggles and Detroit’s ability to finish defensive possessions with rebounds. The Magic’s three-point volume kept them within range at times, but the lower overall field-goal efficiency made it difficult to string together extended runs.
Going forward, Detroit can point to its combination of efficient scoring, rebounding edge, and balanced contributions as a blueprint for winning. Orlando’s takeaway is clearer: improving shot quality and generating easier points inside the arc will be key, especially when the three-point shot isn’t falling at a high rate.
