Fever Make the Loudest Statement
Indiana’s 108-88 win over New York was the clear headline result. The Fever were the only team on the slate to reach 108 points, and their 20-point margin was the largest of the day.
For New York, the issue was not simply the final margin. Allowing 108 points put the Liberty in the most difficult defensive position of any team on the schedule. Indiana’s offensive output separated the game from the rest of the slate and gave the Fever the night’s most complete scoreboard performance.
Lynx Clear 100 in Win Over Portland
Minnesota also broke through offensively, beating Portland 101-93. The Lynx joined Indiana as the only teams to reach triple digits, and they needed that scoring pace to hold off a Portland side that kept pressure on the game deep into the final margin.
The eight-point gap reflected a competitive game, but Minnesota’s ability to get to 101 gave the Lynx enough separation. On a night when several winners were held in the 70s or low 90s, Minnesota’s scoring level stood out.
Valkyries, Mercury Win Defensive Games
Golden State beat Washington 74-69 in one of the night’s lowest-scoring contests. The Valkyries did not need a high-end offensive number to secure the result, instead winning a five-point game in which every possession carried weight.
Phoenix followed a similar script in a 72-63 win over Connecticut. The Mercury held the Sun to the lowest point total of any team on the slate, and their nine-point victory was built on control rather than pace.
Wings Handle Sparks, Dream Survive Sky
Dallas beat Los Angeles 90-82, giving the Wings an eight-point home win and keeping the Sparks from closing the gap. It was a solid mid-range result on a slate split between high-scoring shootouts and defensive grinders.
Atlanta produced the night’s closest finish, edging Chicago 93-91. The Dream’s two-point win was the only game decided by a single possession, and it added late-game tension to a schedule otherwise defined by home-court control.
