The August 23 WNBA slate moved fast and scored faster. Six games produced four road wins, three teams at 99-plus points and one clear statement from Indiana, which went into Chicago and posted the night’s biggest offensive number in a 113-90 win over the Sky.
Atlanta matched that road-game pressure with a 99-89 win at Phoenix, while Washington outlasted Portland 105-100 in the tightest high-scoring finish of the night. Dallas delivered the most decisive margin, beating Seattle 92-70, and Las Vegas took care of Toronto 88-78. Los Angeles was the other home winner, closing out Connecticut 77-68.
Fever Overwhelm Sky in Night’s Most Explosive Result
Indiana’s 113-90 win at Chicago stood above the rest of the schedule. The Fever were the only team to reach 110 points, and their 23-point margin was tied to sustained offensive separation rather than a grind-it-out finish.
For Chicago, the 90-point output was enough to win on many nights. Not here. Indiana’s scoring pace forced the Sky into a game script with little room for empty possessions, and the Fever’s final total created the clearest offensive benchmark of the slate.
Dream Win in Phoenix, Mystics Survive in Portland
Atlanta’s 99-89 road win over Phoenix added another efficient offensive performance to the night. The Dream were one point shy of triple digits and created enough cushion to withstand the Mercury’s 89-point response.
Washington and Portland played the closest game on the board among the highest-scoring matchups, with the Mystics winning 105-100 on the road. Portland reached 100 and still came up short, a reflection of how little defensive margin existed in a game where both teams pushed into elite scoring territory for the night.
Wings Deliver the Sharpest Defensive Result
Dallas produced the strongest two-way margin of the slate in a 92-70 win over Seattle. The Wings were the only team to win by more than 20 while holding their opponent to 70 points or fewer.
That combination mattered. In a night defined by several high-scoring road wins, Dallas separated through control. The Wings’ 22-point margin was the second-largest of the night, and Seattle’s 70 points were the lowest total among the six losing teams.
Aces Handle Tempo, Sparks Close Out Sun
Las Vegas went to Toronto and won 88-78, giving the Aces a double-digit road result in a controlled scoring environment. Toronto stayed within reach, but Las Vegas created enough separation to avoid the kind of late-game volatility seen in Portland.
Los Angeles earned a 77-68 home win over Connecticut in the lowest-scoring game of the slate. The Sparks were the only winning team held under 80 points, but Connecticut’s 68-point output kept the game firmly in Los Angeles’ preferred range.
